Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on February 17, 2022 Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU) is partnering with NIKE, Inc. to address systemic racism in America. The University’s Social Justice Institute will host a panel discussion on Feb. 22 entitled, “Harris-Stowe SJI and NIKE, Inc. Present: Progress Post Ferguson.” The hybrid event featuring local community leaders and NIKE executives will go beyond educating people in the community, to providing solutions and examples at work across the organizations represented. The objective is to address critical systemic racist issues that are plaguing our society while providing advocacy to facilitate systemic reform. The program’s goal is to empower our community and assist them in reaching their full potential. “When unexpected systemic disruption occurs, we are forced to re-examine processes, re-organize priorities, and emphasize what really matters,” said Dr. Candice Idlebird, Chair of Social Sciences Department and Director of the Social Justice Institute at Harris-Stowe. This program will shed light on these systemic injustices and expose flaws in the current system. This will be an ultimate call to action towards the evaluation of the racist undertones that have led to many injustices. Our hope is to understand ways to get to the root of the problem and find a viable solution.” WHAT: Panel Discussion: Nike and Harris-Stowe SJI presents: Progress Post Ferguson WHO: * Antoinette Cousins, Community Outreach Manager, Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC); St. Louis City School Board member; and Vice President for the Riverview West Florissant Development Corporation * Atty.
