Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson Becomes the First Black Woman Nominated for the Supreme Court!
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on February 28, 2022 Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is the first-ever African American woman to be nominated to the Supreme Court. On Friday, February 25, 2022, Judge Brown accepted President Biden’s historic nomination. Judge Jackson, 51, is a native of Washington D.C. and she currently sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. She is a wife and mother of two. She received her law degree from Harvard Law School in 1996. Judge Jackson was nominated by President Obama for her district court judgeship in D.C during his first term and President Biden later nominated her for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 2021. Judge Jackson’s nomination is monumental in a country where leadership does not always fully represent the African American population. President Biden spoke about his reasoning behind the historic nomination saying, “For too long our government, our courts haven’t looked like America. I believe it’s time that we have a court that reflects the full talents of the greatness of our nation.” Though there are many things that need to continue to change in this country, we are glad to see that we are moving in the right direction.
