Norfolk State Grad Launches Streetwear Apparel Line, Tones of Melanin

HBCU grad Ashley Jones is the owner of a stylish and trendy HBCU inspired streetwear company called Tones of Melanin and we’re here for it!

Jones was inspired to start her own apparel line while she was still a student at Norfolk State University. She was unable to find clothing that represented her when shopping in the bookstore, so she created a streetwear apparel brand called Tones of Melanin.

After first launching in 2017, Tones of Melanin became the first Black brand to be sold in Belk, Dicks Sporting Goods, Fanatics.com, and over 20 HBCU bookstores within 3 months of the company's inception! The brand’s apparel includes licensed HBCU t-shirts, hoodies, windbreakers, and more.

“Tones of Melanin is more than just a t-shirt or hoodie! We’re committed to keeping HBCUs open. Through apparel marketing, we’re helping HBCUs further their marketing and we are doing it in style. Giving you high-quality licensed HBCU clothing at an affordable price is our mission.”
