Now in memory of her grandmother joining PRSA on March 1, 1966, her granddaughter Richlynn Kaiser Bailey, Enterprise Change Management Consultant, Toyota Financial Services, has joined PRSA and the GKC-PRSA chapter. She serves on the Inez Kaiser GKC-PRSA Memorial Scholarship Advisory Committee and will be a featured speaker at the chapter’s March 24 event. No matter what role she has at Toyota, Kaiser Bailey is passionate about engaging leaders in dialogue about leading inclusively and championing progress for diverse talent. She’s engaged senior leaders to drive a successful sponsorship initiative for high potential female talent and developed strategy to grow executive sponsorship capability across Toyota North America. Kaiser Bailey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations from Southern Methodist University and a Prosci Change Management certification. “Serving on the advisory committee and now joining PRSA honors the legacy of my grandmother. More than that it includes promoting the values of confidence and overcoming “imposter syndrome” -- reaffirming who you are is enough. The scholarship in her name is about paying it forward and supporting students who are aspiring to make their mark in communications,” said Kaiser Bailey. In her role at Toyota, Kaiser Bailey leads individuals and the organization through changes to align people, processes, and technology to support transformation and growth. Kaiser Bailey has held a variety of positions in her 23 years at Toyota North America, including roles in Human Resources, corporate communications, and marketing. Inez Y. Kaiser was a Kansas City pioneer, entrepreneur, and public relations business owner who was the first Black woman in the nation to own a public relations firm with national clients. Her cookbook, “Soul Food Cookery,” that she promoted nationwide is now in the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of African American Art & Culture thanks to her son Rick Kaiser. “My mother was a great teacher, a great cook, and a great businesswoman, but to me at the time, she was mama. And you didn’t mess with her! She would be very happy to know Richlynn is continuing the work she started in mentoring others in the public relations profession she loved,” said Rick Kaiser, Vice Chair of the Inez Y. Kaiser GKC-PRSA Memorial Fund Advisory Committee. GKC-PRSA President Bridget Koan outlined the criteria for the Inez Y. Kaiser GKC-PRSA Memorial Scholarship Award is Inez Kaiser’s commitment to leadership, public relations excellence, and community volunteerism. She commented, “The Inez Y. Kaiser GKC-PRSA Memorial Scholarship supports undergraduate college students aspiring to make their mark in communications, just as Inez Kaiser did. All applicants have shown us their commitment to exceptional public relations, leadership and volunteerism, all hallmarks of Inez Kaiser’s legacy. I look forward to welcoming the scholars as new professionals, working alongside them as colleagues and seeing them achieve their goals.” Advisory committee members include Bridget Koan, GKC-PRSA chapter president, co-founder and chair Lea-Ann Germinder, APR, Fellow, PRSA, Alex Miller, immediate past chapter president and co-founder; Rick Kaiser, vice chair and Inez Kaiser’s son, Richlynn Kaiser Bailey, Inez Kaiser’s granddaughter; Dean Kruckeberg, Ph.D., APR, Fellow, PRSA; Anita Parran, chapter vice president of diversity & inclusion; Shayla Wilkinson, chapter vice president – business opportunities, chapter vice-president - social media Sheba Clarke and member Carrie Stapleton. The primary duty of the committee is to administer the scholarship; however, the committee also helps raise funds and continues to tell the Inez Y. Kaiser story in coordination with the chapter. The chapter established the initial endowment at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation for undergraduate college scholarships in February 2021 during Black History Month. In 2022, two regional and one national scholarships are available. The deadline is March 25, 2022. The chapter hopes to continue to increase the endowment to help future Inez Kaisers.
