To learn more or to apply visit the website – application period closes on April 30th https://kirchnerfellowship.com/application... A bit more about the program is in the attached one-page overview and here in an AgFunder article when we launched the program. What: A year-long training program where fellows will be “impact venture capitalists”, deciding on an investment in an early-stage company with a mission to address food security. Fellows will have full discretion over $50,000 of investment capital. Why: The field of capital allocation is in dire need of diversification. Just 6% of investment professionals in venture capital are people of color. A 2018 study found that 40% of venture capitalists surveyed attended either Harvard or Stanford University. Our alumni represent dozens of institutions, numerous countries, and gender parity compared to a VC industry standard of approximately 82% male. The program aims to bring diversity to capital allocation via workforce development and increase the access to capital in underserved regions and communities. The Kirchner Fellowship program believes that while the amount of impact investment capital continues to increase, access to that capital for entrepreneurs in underserved regions and communities does not. For that to improve, unique investment approaches that align interests and focus on local ecosystem development for early-stage growth companies are needed to push money and business resources into areas where they are needed most. Assembling, training, and empowering talented young diverse student investment teams for this purpose is the core mission of the Kirchner Fellowship.
