Goodwin and Meta Announce HBCU IP/Tech Scholarships
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on March 16, 2022 Goodwin is proud to partner with Meta on a new IP/Tech Scholarship Program for students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) planning to pursue a career in intellectual property or technology law. The new program provides $20,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from historically excluded groups who are currently attending HBCUs and will be starting law school in fall 2022. Awardees will spend one week this summer at a Goodwin office, shadowing firm lawyers to learn more about the firm and its practice areas. Each awardee will be paired with a Goodwin lawyer who will serve as a mentor for the scholar while in law school, and awardees also have the opportunity to spend two virtual weeks this summer working with one of the Meta IP teams. Upon completion of their 1L year at law school, the scholarship recipients will be considered for positions in Goodwin’s 1L Diversity Fellowship program. “Historically Black Colleges and Universities feed talented Black students to the country’s top law schools. As a Morehouse College graduate, I am humbled by Goodwin’s decision to target HBCU graduates as part of its ongoing commitment to serve the community and profession beyond our firm’s walls,” said Goodwin partner and CRED@Goodwin Co-Chair Calvin Wingfield. “Our focus on the technology and IP sectors stems from the conspicuous dearth of Black attorneys practicing at law firms and corporations. This scholarship is an opportunity for Goodwin to strengthen the pipeline of Black talent into the legal profession by helping to close the financial gap that serves as a barrier for many to pursue a legal career.” The application deadline for the HBCU IP/Tech Scholarship Program is April 21, 2022. Application guidelines and forms are available online, and for additional information, please email HBCUscholarships@goodwinlaw.com.
