|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on March 17, 2022 Shalanda Young is the 5th Black Woman to be named to President Biden’s cabinet and the first Black Woman to receive confirmation for director of the Office of Management and Budget. The U.S. Senate voted to confirm Young as director of the OMB on 3/15/2022, nearly a year after she was installed as acting director. Young has 14 years of experience serving on the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations. She was named director of the committee and was later nominated deputy director of OMB. She was named acting director of the agency in 2021 before being confirmed this year. Young’s nomination garnered bipartisan support from the National Black Caucus, Democratic leader and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Republican Senator Richard Shelby. Biden vowed to keep his promise to make his administration more diverse, “I'm going to keep my commitment that the administration, both in the White House and outside in the Cabinet, is going to look like the country.” Young is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She received her BA from Loyola University New Orleans, and her MHA from Tulane University. Shalanda Young, congratulations on your new position!
