The 76th Annual Family Institute Conference: “Supporting Families: Social Justice Through Workplace Justice,” March 16-18

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on March 17, 2022 In partnership with The Advancing Black Strategists Initiative (ABSI), Morehouse College Department of Sociology and the International Comparative Labor Studies (ICLS) program will host the 76th Annual Family Institute Conference from March 16 – 18, 2022. This year’s theme is “Supporting Families: Social Justice Through Workplace Justice”. The conference begins with the “Crown Forum After Dark” on Wednesday, March 16 at 6 pm with author, innovator, and strategist organizer, Alicia Garza. Ms. Garza founded the Black Futures Lab to make Black communities powerful in politics, and she is the co-creator of #BlackLivesMatter, and the Black Lives Matter Global Network. She will lead a free master class on “Organization for Social Justice in the 21st Century” at the Ray Charles Center for the Performing Arts. Click here to secure your seat. On Thursday, March 17, the conference will have a full day of conversations and engagement. The day will start with a robust panel discussion with national and local activists on “Social Justice Careers: How Did We Get Here?” at 1 pm. Guests panelists are: Alicia Garza, Black Lives Matter Co-Founder and Principal Black Futures Lab Scott Roberts, Senior Director of Criminal Justice Campaigns, Color of Change LaQuita Honeysucker, Director Civil Rights and Community Action Department, The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Gregory Johnson, Managing Director for U.S. Equity and Economic Opportunity Initiative, The Rockefeller Foundation Patrick Scott, Director of Organizing Institute, The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) The panel will be followed by internship fairs in the areas of Social Justice and Advocacy and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion starting at 2:30 pm and concluding at4 pm. The panel discussion will be held in the Shirley Massey Leadership Auditorium. The internship fairs are located at the RayPAC. The 76th Annual Family Institute Conference will conclude on Friday, March 18 with an ICLS presentation on “The Georgia & Global Film Industry: The Atlanta Production Imperative – The Workforce” at 1 pm in the Robert Woodruff Library. The discussion will include how the film industry can provide a living wage for all its workforce and be equitably inclusive of the Black and Brown community.
