Texas Southern University, Southwest Airlines to announce major partnership

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on March 28, 2022 Officials from Southwest Airlines will visit Texas Southern University on Thursday, March 31, 2022, to announce TSU as the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to join the airline’s First Officer recruitment program – Destination 225°. (On a compass, 225° is the southwest directional heading.) The partnership will create a pathway for graduates of TSU’s Aviation Science and Technology program, which includes a Professional Pilot concentration, by leading aspiring Black and other minority pilots to Southwest Airlines. There will be a photo opportunity with TSU President Dr. Lesia Crumpton-Young and Southwest Airlines Flight Operations Vice President Lee Kinnebrew in the atrium lobby of the Science Building during a partnership signing and gift exchange ceremony, followed by additional photo opportunities when Southwest Airlines officials tour TSU’s Aviation Science program in the Spearman Technology Building. What: Southwest Airlines Destination 225° partnership with Texas Southern University and its Aviation Science and Technology program, including a gift exchange ceremony and tour.
