How a Cheyney Grad Leveraged HBCU CONNECT to Land Dream Career with Trane Technologies!
|
Posted By: Will Moss on April 12, 2022 FEATURED Content When Scott Seaborne joined an HBCU Connect event in August 2021, he didn’t know what to expect. “I wasn’t sure what was going to happen, but I knew that the opportunities I was looking for by myself weren’t materializing.” Little did he know, a few months later he’d be working in a fulfilling role as a Service Account Manager for Trane Commercial in Hunt Valley, MD. In this role Scott is responsible for cultivating customer relationships and consulting with building owners to develop HVAC system related solutions. Having come to the company with an extensive sales & leadership background, Scott was well-prepared for the customer-facing aspect of the role and is quickly learning more about the company’s commitment to sustainability and how it applies to both customers and its employees. “I’ve done an energy audit on my home and made some investments to manage electricity, like investing in LED light bulbs. And, while my town doesn’t have at-home recycling pick up, I take our household recycling to the county drop off center,” said Scott. “It’s refreshing to work for a company that’s committed to sustainability. Being personally invested in the company’s purpose to create a more sustainable world makes it seamless to have those conversations with customers.” According to Scott, some of the keys to his early success in his new role include his knack for effectively communicating and understanding customer concerns. As a graduate of Cheyney University, an HBCU, he also has a vested interest in making sure he’s providing top-tier service to his customers, some of which are HBCUs in the Maryland area. “It’s an opportunity to give back in a different way, and that’s very important to me,” said Scott. “These are customers who previously hadn’t been serviced by someone who looks like them. So, it’s been rewarding to have those experiences and build relationships with these customers who feel they can have a different level of trust in me to take care of them and their students.” And, this new, fulfilling career move wouldn’t have been possible without HBCU Connect. “It was awesome to attend an event like that and not only hear a company talk about the importance of diversity but also see that reflected in who was representing the company at the event.” According to Scott, Trane Technologies – and its businesses, which include Trane Commercial – works diligently to cultivate a rewarding work environment. “I’ve been given challenging projects and being pushed to think outside of the box to address customer concerns,” noted Scott. “It’s refreshing to work for a company that walks the walk when it comes to sustainability. From the Gigaton Challenge to their commitment to diversity and inclusion, they’re transparent about everything they’re doing to meet these goals.” “There’s just so much room for growth and opportunity,” added Scott. “Already, I’ve received great mentorship, even from people from other departments. It just makes it clear that everyone here is committed to uplifting each other and making sure we all succeed and thrive.” The next Trane Technologies HBCU CONNECT Hiring Event will be Thursday, April 14th, Apply Today: https://hbcuconnect.com/resumes/?cid=199&s...
