Winston-Salem University Named Pridgen Cross Country and Track and Field Assistant Coach

Winston-Salem University Named Pridgen Cross Country and Track and Field Assistant Coach
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on April 15, 2022

Cierra Pridgen has been named the Cross Country and Track Field Assistant coach for the Winston-Salem State Rams.

"As a two-time Track and Field All-American, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve at my alma mater," said Pridgen. "I want to thank head coach, Antonio Wells for the opportunity along with the athletic department. I am ready to contribute to the future of the student-athletes to prepare them for on and off the track. This is truly a dream come true. As always, GO RAMS!"

Pridgen a 2020 graduate of Winston-Salem State University where she earned a Bachelor of Health Science degree in Healthcare Management, collected multiple accolades and served as a top sprinter for the program. In 2017, Pridgen assisted the Rams to the institution's first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

In 2019, Pridgen led the Rams to the second CIAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships while placing first in the Women's 100-meter dash. In 2017 and 2020, she received All-American and All-Academic honors. Throughout her four strong years with the Rams, Pridgen was a four-time All-CIAA selection. In addition to a strong athletic career, Pridgen was a scholar student.

"Cierra Pridgen, formally Cierra Thompson, has come in and shown how much she considered WSSU her home," said head coach Antonio Wells. "It is great having Winston-Salem State's LAST All-American guiding these young men and women. She has committed completely to the vision of the program and institution in her role as an assistant coach. It is so important to have coaches that can communicate and collaborate with the common goals for the program. I look forward to her growth and progress on this side of track & field."

Most recently coach Pridgen along with coach Wells helped coach the indoor track and field team to a second-place finish at the CIAA indoor track and field championships.
