Benedict College Head Coach Selwyn Young Adds His Name to Tiger Record Book with 250th Career Win

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on April 18, 2022 Head Coach Selwyn Young is doing one of two things manning the helm of Tiger baseball at Benedict. He manages his team to steal bases setting NCAA Division II records individually and as a team, but he also collects wins. Coach Young recently etched his own name in the Benedict baseball history book recording his 250th career win at the helm of the program. Young has been at the front end of the baseball program since 2010. On April 14, 2022 he became the all-time winningest coach in program history with his 250 win coming in a doubleheader sweep in game two a 18-1 win over Morris College. In between his first win and win 250, Young has led Benedict to ten-straight NCAA DII stolen base titles. His overall won-loss record in 11 seasons is 250-205 for a .549 winning percentage. No school in NCAA history has put up the stolen base numbers like Benedict College has under Young. During his tenure with the Tigers, they have stolen more than a total of 2200 bases. Benedict holds the top five spots in the NCAA Division II record book for season stolen bases. They all took place during a 5-year period from 2009-2013 when the Tigers stole 1,371 bases. The Tigers swiped 334 bases in 403 attempts over 41 games during the 2013 season to rank No. 1 in NCAA DII history. Senior outfielder Bradon O’Connor is on pace to break the single stolen base record set a national collegiate baseball stolen base record. O’ Connor has stolen 70 bases out of 76 tries in 35 games during the 2022 season. The current record is 96. Coach Young just keeps hitting milestones at Benedict. His love, dedication, and passion for Tiger baseball and all its participants is inspiring.
