Posted By: Kennedy Williams on May 01, 2022 U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited Morgan State University to meet with students and faculty from Morgan’s National Transportation Center, home to pioneering research and technology transfer in transportation. Celebrating its 30th year, the Center played host to the Secretary, along with representatives from the U.S. Department of Transportation, who observed student-led presentations on transportation-related research, and discussed transportation infrastructure, equitable change, federal funding and workforce opportunities at a widely-attended town hall. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s University Transportation Centers (UTC) Program awards and administers grants to colleges and universities across the U.S. Since its establishment in 1987, the congressionally mandated program helps address the nation’s ever-growing need for the safe, efficient and environmentally sound movement of people and goods. Last year, the Department of Transportation invested $1.4 million in Morgan’s Urban Mobility & Equity Center, which researches all aspects of transportation – from emergency evacuations to toll highway pricing to transit use and routes.
