Posted By: Kennedy Williams on May 09, 2022

Attorney and founder and principal owner of Ben Crump Law, Crump has been listed among the Most Influential People of 2021 by TIME100, Ebony Magazine’s Power 100 Most Influential African Americans, The National Trial Lawyers Top100 Lawyers and the 2014 NNPA Newsmaker of the Year. He is being recognized for his significant accomplishments in defending the rights of and seeking justice for minorities and other marginalized citizens and helping to change laws and practices that deprive them of their rights. Whether representing an individual family or a whole community, Crump works to expose the inequities and the injustice often faced by his clients—and to help establish new legislation and practices to effect change. In the process, he has helped reach historic settlements and verdicts.

His life’s work reflects UDC’s core values of excellence, integrity, innovation, sustainability and collaboration. For his full bio, please click here.

President Ronald Mason Jr., said, “Ben Crump’s voice on the forefront of social justice issues has helped raise the curtain—again—on America’s racial bias and to keep challenging the status quo.” The Chief Academic Officer, Lawrence T. Potter Jr., Ph.D., said, “The honorary degree being awarded to Mr. Crump signifies the outstanding leadership model he is and source of inspiration for the University’s students, no matter their discipline.”

Participants do not need to register to view the UDC Commencement, which will begin promptly at 10 a.m. on May 14. The link for the Livestream ceremony will be posted on Friday and Saturday before the event.
