Shaw University Announces New Partnership with Yardi Systems to Award Full Scholarships
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on May 24, 2022

On May 17, 2022, Shaw University announced a major gift from Yardi® Systems to fund five, four-year scholarships for selected freshmen starting their academic journey in the fall 2022 semester through matriculation into 2025. The scholarships include full tuition, room and board. Each of the five scholarship recipients will receive $100,000 to cover four years of academic expenses.

Marilyn Baldwin Richards, Shaw’s Vice President for Institutional Advancement, said: “This mission centered opportunity that Yardi has provided is a first for Shaw and it is most impactful. Yardi’s investment will help to provide a quality education for our Honors Program students and Presidential Scholars, who will graduate debt free and career ready. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

The Yardi Scholarship is a need-based award, given for the purpose of reducing student debt, increasing student retention, and promoting student learning and development at the University.

Scholarship award recipients will be selected by the Shaw Office of Financial Aid based on the following criteria:

Must be an incoming freshman enrolled at Shaw University
Demonstrate financial need based on students’ FAFSA application status
Must pursue a bachelor’s degree in an accredited program within the guidelines of the University
Must reside on the Shaw University campus in one of the University’s residence halls
Demonstrate leadership at the University or in the community
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
“Expanding our commitment to continuing education by funding scholarships at HBCUs is incredibly important to our company,” said Liana Rao, Director, Corporate Philanthropy at Yardi. “These scholarships exemplify Yardi’s corporate commitment to diversity and inclusion. We are excited to partner with Shaw University on a full-ride scholarship that will expand access to education for deserving students.” Yardi leaders expressed interest in providing scholarship support to Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) in locations where Yardi has corporate brick and mortar operations.

Yardi develops and supports industry-leading investment and property management software for all types and sizes of real estate companies. With 8,000 employees, Yardi (yardi.com) is working with clients globally to drive significant innovation in the real estate industry.

Dr. Paulette Dillard, President of Shaw University, said, “The Shaw University family is very excited to announce a significant gift from Yardi to fund full academic scholarships for five incoming first-year students. This historic scholarship is a tremendous boost for our students, and we are grateful to our Yardi partners for investing in our future leaders.”
