Posted By: Kennedy Williams on June 03, 2022

Bowie State's interim head football coach Kyle Jackson, offensive coordinator Tyrae Reid and defensive pass game coordinator and safeties coach Rod White, Jr. were all named as rising stars on the FootballScoop's 2022 Minority Watch List announced on May 27.

The list was formed in conjunction with NFL coaches, scouts, college coaches, journalists, college administrators, and staff members from Football Scoop. Jackson and Reid were among 250 total football coaches and personnel who gained a selection in 2022 Minority Watch List/Rising Star Honorable Mention.

Prior to being named interim head coach on May 26, Jackson served as the defensive coordinator briefly, recruiting coordinator and linebackers coach.

Bowie State's defensive unit finished top-10 nationally in multiple categories including: defensive TDs (1st), tackles for loss (1st), turnovers gained (2nd), third down defense (2nd), fumbles recovered (2nd), sacks (3rd), red zone defense (4th), fourth down defense (6th), pass efficiency defense (7th), total defense (9th), scoring defense (11th).

The Bulldogs led the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in total touchdowns (60), extra points (54), total points (450), rushing yards (2719), total offense (5315), and touchdowns (56) under the guidance of Reid's play calling offensively.

Additionally, Rod White, Jr. – the Bulldogs new defensive pass game coordinator and safeties coach was also named to the watch list.

This year is the second edition of the Rising Stars Minority Watch List. In 2021, the list included Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders and other coaches who are now in prominent coaching positions.
