Posted By: Kennedy Williams on June 19, 2022

Prairie View A&M University Athletics has hired Michael A. Yant as its Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Initiatives, Development and Corporate Partnerships. His role will be to execute a plan for sustainability that will secure consistent financial support within the Athletics Department and promote the development of student-athletes.

Yant comes to the athletics department bringing over 20 years of experience in sports, business management and marketing. He has extensive experience in contract negotiation, public relations and marketing with corporate giants, such as PepsiCo, Xerox, Adidas America and Daktronics.

"I am committed to working with our Leadership team and the PVAMU administrators," Yant said. I am here to assist with creating an athletics program that sets the standard for Division 1 colleges and our peers worldwide when it comes to fostering the relationships amongst students, administrators, alumni and corporate partners."

Prior to his move to athletics, Yant worked as a senior contract negotiator. During that time on behalf of the university he was inking the deal for "March," a TV docu-series on The CW network, highlighting the hard work and success of the Marching Storm, the college's award-winning band.

In addition, Yant has negotiated over $75 million in contracts on behalf of PVAMU, secured game day agreements and sponsorships for the 18 sports programs, and coordinated the College of Business Panther Investment Fund, which offers PVAMU students an opportunity to develop financial analysis skills.

At Prairie View A&M Yant will inspire and secure future corporate partnerships, growing the sports endowment that sustains scholarships and fosters alumni engagement. He aspires to create a home-field advantage for PVAMU Athletics through brand awareness and global exposure for student-athletes, including, but not limited to; achieving sold out stadiums/arenas, engaging in corporate partnerships, increasing the sports endowment, enhancing the student and alumni experience, and leading student-athlete career development.

The Florida State University graduate has a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and has certifications in: contract management, contract development, and professional project management. Yant is currently pursuing his master's degree in Community Development at Prairie View A&M University.
He is a father of three, Michaela, Malik and Mekhi, which are all HBCU graduates.

Yant, is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He is also a member of Big Brothers & Sisters, 100 Black Men of America, NAACP and the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation.
