Posted By: Kennedy Williams on June 24, 2022 Fayetteville State University may have hoisted five (5) Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship trophies this 2021-2022 academic year but the accomplishment of achieving a 3.13 departmental grade-point average is also something that needs to be celebrated. Seven of the eleven sport-sponsored programs at Fayetteville State earned a 3.0 GPA with 80 student-athletes having a 3.0 designation. Forty student-athletes finished with a 3.5 or better grade-point average. "The resilience of our Broncos in the classroom this past year connects to the success that was achieved with five conference championships," said Director of Athletics Anthony Bennett. "As a staff, we are proud of our student-athletes self-discipline, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship that contributed to these high personal performances." Fayetteville State University is a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina System and the second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state, having been founded in 1867. FSU is an historically black university offering degrees at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels. With more than 6,500 students, Fayetteville State University is among the most diverse institutions in the nation. FSU Athletics is affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and has been a member institution of the CIAA since 1954. NCAA Division II athletics is all about balance. Students participate in highly competitive athletics and have the best access ratio to NCAA championships of any division, but their college experience includes so much more than sports participation. The balanced approach to athletics, academics, and community engagement allows Division II student-athletes to focus on their academic pursuits, internships, studies abroad, and all that interest them.
