Posted By: Remmie Chew III on July 07, 2022 I AM LOOKING FORWARD to a new film coming out that will showcase a huge part of our history as black and African American citizens. staring Viola Davis. Based on true events, The Woman King follows General Nanisca and the fighters who protected the Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s as she trains the next generation of warriors in order to defend themselves against invading colonialists. this film will help give us a glimpse into moments of our history that were washed away in the oceans of 'America' on slave ships as we lost so much of who we are and were as a people. the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries. i am thrilled to finally hear about and know the history of this once great kingdom If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
