UDC Athletics to Revive Cheerleading Program with the Hiring of New Coach Marcus Ewell

UDC Athletics to Revive Cheerleading Program with the Hiring of New Coach Marcus Ewell
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on July 12, 2022

The University of the District of Columbia's Athletic Department has brought on Marcus Ewell as the new Cheerleading Coach.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. LeVita Bassett for her outstanding leadership and breathing new life into Firebird Cheer over the past several years," said Director of Athletics Patricia Thomas. "We are fortunate to have Marcus Ewell step in to direct the program. Coach Ewell has an extensive background; I look forward to watching the program flourish."

Ewell is USASF certified and a credentialing staff member, coming to UDC with over 15 years of cheerleading experience under his belt.

His resume includes head coach for the DC United All-Stars from 2002-2007, the All-Star coach for the Maryland Twisters from 2011-2013 and the Game Day operations for cheerleading for the Baltimore Ravens from 2015-2016.

Ewell currently works as the All Star Program Director for TKO MD All-Stars where he serves as the head coach for multiple all-star teams. He is also currently attending UDC for his Bachelor's Degree.

The Cheerleading program is open to all Community College, Flagship and Graduate students! Coach Ewell is looking to develop talent to build spirit and a competition squad! To prepare for the upcoming season, he will host tryout preparation workouts beginning August 2, 2022 from 6-8 PM in the Sports Complex. Workouts will be held every Tuesday from 6-8 until Sept 1. These workouts give you an opportunity to understand the expectations prior to tryouts at the beginning of September.
