Chief Academic Officer Announces Appointment of Sharon Beasley, Ph.D., as UDC’s Director of Nursing Education
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on July 14, 2022

Dr. Lawrence T. Potter, Jr., Chief Academic Officer, has approved the appointment of Dr. Sharon Beasley to serve as the University’s Director of Nursing Education (DNE) effective August 1, 2022. Dr. Beasley’s prior position was Director of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), based in Atlanta, GA. Her range of experiences includes working as a faculty member, program director of nursing programs, and ACEN Director—and she presents UDC with a seasoned professional who can lead UDC’s Associate and Bachelor’s nursing programs to a more seamless and successful outcome for our students and the institution.

Dr. Beasley will be responsible for helping to ensure UDC meets the District of Columbia Board of Nursing and the ACEN professional standards and that students are provided quality instruction and a supportive environment that will help lead them to successful careers in nursing.

Dr. Potter said, “Dr. Beasley’s selection results from a national search that identified several qualified candidates. Yet, not only her leadership skills and expertise make her stand out, but also her desire to take on the collaboration needed to meld a great nursing program that bridges all levels of our nursing programs.

The administration, including the Board and President Mason, and the faculty look forward to working with her to put UDC’s nursing program front and center in producing qualified candidates for a critical field in our region and beyond.”

Dr. Beasley said about her appointment, “My leadership experiences in nursing education, project management, personnel supervision, faculty and student education, nursing practice, and other experiences have prepared me for the Director of Nursing Education position. I look forward to helping UDC establish a premier nursing program built upon informed leadership, solid standards, caring faculty, and the desire of students who are called to this special service to succeed.”
Dr. Beasley earned a Ph.D. in Education from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah, GA. She has been a registered nurse since 1997.

Dr. Ricardo Brown, Associate Dean of CAUSES and Founding Director of the School of Health and Clinical Sciences, and Dr. Bushra Saeed, Director of Nursing, Allied Health, Life and Physical Sciences of the UDC Community College, co-chaired the selection committee.
