WSU's Hilliard-Gray Selected to Attend NCAA Leadership Institute

Winston-Salem State University Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator and head softball coach LaTaya Hilliard-Gray was selected to participate in the Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute as a member of the 2022 cohort which includes 18 administrators from across the NCAA Divisions. July 2022 will begin the first of a two-year program for Hilliard-Gray.

The Leadership Institute's mission is to elevate participants' leadership skills to accelerate their professional growth while enhancing their ability to excel within their current roles. It provides unique programming to assist with strategically planning and executing a career in athletics administration.

"Over the years, I have participated in several NCAA development sessions where at the conclusion; I was rejuvenated, inspired, and connected to resources within college athletics," said Hilliard-Gray. "Yet I am most excited about the institute due to its in-depth professional development programming and the intention to elevate participants through an experiential curriculum structure; I'm excited about the education & transformation that is to come".

Hilliard-Gray has been with the Rams for over two decades and she has made major contributions in every roles in which she has served including Head Volleyball Coach and Head Softball Coach.



In January of 2021, she continued moving her career forward when she was named to the position of Associate Director of Athletics. In the role of Associate Director of Athletics, Hilliard-Gray has a pivotal role in the administrative leadership of the Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics including serving as a member of the Department's Senior Staff, sport administrator responsibilities for Men's Golf, Women's Tennis and Volleyball.

Administrative leadership is nothing new to Hilliard-Gray as she has spent the past eight years as the Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) at Winston-Salem State University. She has also spent that time serving as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Athletics,Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Advisor and Athletics housing coordinator.

"LaTaya's selection as a member of the 2022 Leadership Institute is a reflection of the body of work of her coaching and administrative career, the impact she has and continues to have on the student-athletes, coaches, staff and faculty she serves as well as her commitment to excellence, graduating champions, and college athletics and the holistic experience of student-athletes." Etienne Thomas, Director of Athletics.

During each calendar year, Hilliard-Gray will participate in a five-day program that focus on professional development in the different facets of Athletics Administration.
