ECSU: Rodgers and Nevola Nominated For NCAA Woman Of The Year

ECSU: Rodgers and Nevola Nominated For NCAA Woman Of The Year
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on July 24, 2022

The NCAA and Elizabeth City State University Athletic Department have announced that Azhante Rodgers and Andrea Nevola are among this year's nominees for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Rogers and Nevola, who concluded their Vikings careers this past season, left a positive impact on the ECSU community and their nominations are a reflection of the leadership and dedication they have displayed.

Rodgers, from Portsmouth, VA, was a forward on the women's basketball team and won ECSU's MVP award for the 2022 season. In the classroom, she achieved the Honor Roll for four straight years and was involved in numerous community service projects. Rodgers has been recognized for her work with the Food Bank of Albemarle, the 5K Rhythm Run and various Ice Cream Socials.

Nevola, from Venezuela, played No.1 singles and doubles for the Vikings and served as the team's Captain. Academically, she placed on the Chancellor's List for four straight years and was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

In addition, Nevola served a term as the Enactus Program Vice-President, is a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success and was Spanish Club President for three years.

NCAA member schools nominated nominated 577 graduating student-athletes for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award. This year's nominees represent all three divisions, including 248 from Division I, 127 from Division II and 202 from Division III. Of the 577 nominations, 23 sports are represented, with 125 student-athletes competing in multiple sports.

Next, conference offices will select up to two student-athletes from their member school nominations. The Woman of the Year Selection Committee will then select 10 student-athletes from each division, determining the Top 30 honorees. From the Top 30, the Woman of the Year Selection Committee will announce nine finalists, three from each NCAA division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will review the finalists and name the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year.
