Rust College Baseball Recognized at Memphis Redbirds Game

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on July 29, 2022 In recognition of their back-to-back runs to the Black College World Series, Rust College Bearcats’ Baseball team will be honored on-field before the Memphis Redbirds' September 11 game at AutoZone Park, the Redbirds Stadium in Downtown Memphis, TN. The Black College World Series provides a platform for teams and players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities to showcase their skills in front of professional players. The Rust College baseball team made history by competing in the first ever Black College World Series for "small schools" held in Montgomery, Alabama at Riverpark Stadium in 2021. The tournament consisted of two separate double elimination brackets featuring the top-four NCAA Division II HBCUs on one side and the top-four NAIA HBCUs on the other. Rust College baseball wrapped up the 2022 campaign finishing above .500 at 17-15-1 (.530) for the first time since 2004. The Bearcats, led by first-year Head Coach John Bates, won their first postseason contest in program history with a walk-off victory over Talladega that went into the early morning and made the Bearcats' second straight appearance in the Black College World Series. Gates open for the September 11 game at 1:00pm. A portion of each ticket sold will benefit the Rust College baseball program as they look to fund some field improvements in future years.
