Every July, people in South Africa and around the world celebrate “Nelson Mandela month.” It is a time to reflect on and honor the life and legacy of the former South African President, who was jailed for 27 years by an apartheid government. “The name ‘Nelson Mandela’ is synonymous with the words ‘hope, resilience and courage,’” said UDC President Ronald Mason. “This month and always, UDC honors the man who fought tirelessly for freedom and justice, refusing to give up, even in life’s most challenging times. Mandela taught us that every individual has the ability to make a positive impact, and we will continue to fulfill his legacy.” Nelson Mandela passed away in 1999, but his footprint lives on. Watch this video, produced by UDC Communications team members and alumnae Kaydian Jones (’14, Mass Media) and Le’Cheay Armstrong (’22, Digital Media), to learn how Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders is keeping his memory and work alive. #udcfirebirds #udc1851 #mandela #nelsonmandela If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
