Fort Valley State University (FVSU) has named Britney Smith as the new executive director of marketing and communications. Smith, who has a diverse background in public relations, branding, and marketing, will begin her new role on August 1, 2022.

FVSU Chief of Staff RJ Mathis said Smith will be responsible for FVSU’s overall communications strategy, including branding, public relations, digital strategy, social media and marketing.

“I’m excited to welcome Ms. Smith to Fort Valley State University,” Mathis said. “We look forward to her advancing FVSU’s strategic communications efforts and elevating our brand to new and greater heights.”

Along with public relations, branding, and publications, Smith’s expertise also includes managing special events, social media, content writing/editing, and leading awareness campaigns.

FVSU President Paul Jones, Ph.D., said adding Smith to the FVSU’s team will allow the institution to enhance the University’s brand recognition and support various strategic marketing initiatives.

“Ms. Smith brings a wealth of knowledge, creativity, and expertise that will serve us well at Fort Valley State University,” Jones said.

“I’m confident she will continue to propel FVSU’s brand forward and develop dynamic communication strategies to highlight our institution’s mission and extensive accomplishments.”

Smith said she was looking forward to joining the Wildcat family. “FVSU enjoys a stellar reputation as one of the nation’s leading institutions of higher learning,” Smith said. “I look forward to positioning the Wildcats for continued success and recognition by highlighting that reputation and using bold, consistent storytelling to showcase our students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Along with serving as assistant director of publications and strategic events at Florida A&M University (FAMU), Smith has led internal and external communications for Leon County Government in Tallahassee, Florida, where she oversaw crisis communications, branding, social media, and marketing campaigns. Smith also served as the business program director for Keiser University in Tallahassee, Florida.

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in Management and an MBA with a concentration in Marketing, both from FAMU.

Her industry recognitions include:
