Wiley College Men's Golf Brings in First Recruit Barnett
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on August 05, 2022 Wiley College head men's and women's golf coach Jacob Robinson is pleased to welcome his first recruit freshman Savion Barnett from Texarkana, Texas. Barnett is the first athlete to be recruited for golf in 54 years. He competed at Texas High School and helped his team reach the state tournament. He also played football and helped Texas High reach the Class 5A state quarterfinals. Getting to continue to compete and being less than two hours away from home were factors for Barnett choosing Wiley College. Robinson sees great potential in his first recruit. "He's going to be a great asset for us because he has a lot of experience," Robinson said. "He's played since he was in the third grade. Barnett is committed to the sport. I look forward to teaching him some things." Barnett will help restart the men's golf program which last competed in 1968-69. It will compete as a club team in the Spring of 2023 and gain full varsity status in Spring 2024.
