FSU's Barnes-Brown, Lane Named to BCFHOF POY Watch List

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on August 19, 2022 The Black College Football Hall of Fame (BCFHOF) announced the 2022 Watch List for the Black College Football Player of the Year Award. Fayetteville State's Defensive Back Brandon Barnes-Brown and Quarterback K'Hari Lane were among the listed. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding football player from a Historically Black College & University. The Watch List of candidates has been selected based on past performance and future potential. Barnes-Brown and Lane were selected as Watch List nominees from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). During the 2021 season, Barnes-Brown recorded a league-best five (5) interceptions, with 13 passes defended, ten solo tackles, and 13 assisted tackles. He completed the 2021 season with a total of 106 interception-return yards and one touchdown. After three seasons and 28 games of participation, the 5-11, 190lbs defensive back has accumulated ten interceptions, 20 pass breakups, and 58 tackles. The Charlotte, NC native was also selected to the 2022 Pre-Season All-CIAA team and the 2022 BoxToRow HBCU Football Pre-Season All-American Team. Lane finished last season as an honoree on the All-CIAA Second Team. The Oglethorpe, GA native threw for 2,204 yards with 21 touchdowns and had a passing efficiency of 168.70. During the 2021 season, versus Wingate University, the 6-1, 205lbs quarterback threw for a season-high 356 yards. He threw four (4) touchdowns against Johnson C. Smith. The Watch List is composed of 49 players from 26 different HBCUs. Four finalists will be unveiled after the season. The winner of the Black College Football Player of the Year Award, which will be announced during halftime of the 2023 HBCU Legacy Bowl, will be honored with the Deacon Jones Trophy. The HBCU Legacy Bowl takes place on Saturday, February 25, 2023, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game will be broadcast live on NFL Network.
