Kentucky State University Butts Named Head Men's and Women's Volleyball Coach

Kentucky State University Butts Named Head Men
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on August 19, 2022

Kentucky State Athletics announces Eileen Butts as head coach of men's and women's volleyball.

Eileen Butts served as the interim head coach during the second half of the inaugural men's season, where she earned her first SIAC win at home in a 3-0 (25-14,25-14,25-19) sweep against Morehouse College (4/9/2022). During this season, she also made history coaching in the inaugural 2022 SIAC Men's Volleyball Championship.

"It's incredible to be a part of a university that has been a part of my life and to be able to contribute to something within the university. I am elated and excited to start working with the teams." Head Coach Butts said during her first interview.

Butts has 18 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level, beginning her career as a head coach at Carver Vo-Tech High School in Baltimore.

She established the varsity women's volleyball team at Frankfort High School, serving as the head coach for six seasons, along with coaching premier club volleyball with the Frankfort Elite Volleyball Association.

She will make her official debut Friday, August 26 against the University of West Alabama in the Thorobreds first match of the Kentucky State University Women's Volleyball Invitational at noon inside Bell Gymnasium.

She is excited about her debut. "I'm excited for that first match with the women's volleyball, and I am looking forward to continue building the men's program." Butts said.

She played collegiate volleyball at Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio, and holds an MBA from Strayer University and an EDS from the University of Cumberlands.

A native of nearby Versailles, Kentucky, and graduate of Woodford County High School, Butts now resides in Frankfort with her husband Brad and their two children, Trey and Clara.
