PVAMU: Four Receive 2022 Preseason All-Conference Soccer Honors

Senior Andrea Nugent was named the preseason Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the year, while also earning first team nods. The defending SWAC champions had a total of four earning preseason honors.

Senior midfielder Lesa Griffin, also earned first team honors. Senior defender Megan Howell and sophomore goalkeeper Medinat Lawal were named to the second team.

The teams were determined via a vote among the SWAC's sports information directors and head coaches. The league office announced the preseason honorees Thursday.

The Lady Panthers finished the season 13-4-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play earning the 2021 SWAC championship crown

Griffin an Arlington, Texas native has played in 17 games with 14 starts. She tallied three goals and three assists. She took 24 shots with nine on goal.

Nugent a native of Victorville, Calif., played and started in all of the Lady Panthers regular season games this past season.



She tallied four goals along with four assists on the season, while taking 27 shots with 14 shots on goals. The defensive standout was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week once and SWAC Defensive Player of the Week five times during the 2021 season.

Howell, a defender recorded two goals. The Mississauga, Ontario Canada native scored both of her goals in conference play against Alcorn State. She played in all 19 games registering five shots.

Lawal, joins Howell on the all-conference second team. The then freshman goalkeeper native from Houston, Texas played in eight games with six starts. She had 27 saves second best of all net minders. She earned a 7-0-1 record, with three shutouts.
