Updates to Your Restaurant's Menu That'll Make Patrons Feel Healthier
|
Posted By: Anica Oaks on August 31, 2022 As the trend towards informed and healthy eating grows in the United States, so does the expectation of more nutritious items on the menu. Every restaurant should consider the apparent healthiness of their menu and how this might impact the way their brand is perceived. The key is to find ways to develop a healthier menu without sacrificing the tastes and quality that attract customers to you in the first place. Portion Control You need to be careful about cutting portions, especially on classic items and popular favorites. However, you can limit some of the carbs and calories on each plate with some clever maneuvering. Placing meat on a "bed" of something else can make it seem a little bigger. Likewise, you don't want to leave a lot of empty rooms on the plate. Use vegetables and other healthier items to fill the space or throw a garnish on to give it some flair. Add Natural Alternatives There are always alternatives and options, so don't be afraid to try some of them. Think about adding things like multigrain flatbread and raw sugar when appropriate. Sourcing and quality are just as important as calories. Many diners are more worried about how their food was produced rather than its nutritious value. Focusing on natural, organic, and traceable foods helps boost customer confidence. Feature Vegetables and Fruit Vegetables and fruit are usually an afterthought on menu descriptions. Rather than throwing the side vegetable in at the end, you can make it a more significant and meaningful part of the dish. Let the vegetables or low-calorie grains become a larger part of the dish. This might take a big of experimentation in the kitchen, but it could end up creating a new crowd favorite that appears healthier and is cheaper thanks to less meat on each plate. Seek Honest Feedback Every restaurant should seek the earnest feedback of its customers. You don't necessarily need to force everyone to fill out a review card before they leave the store, but you can incentivize people with discounts or other deals. Ask people how they feel about the healthiness of their menu and if they have any ideas that might make it better. Eating and health are inseparable. The truth is that our diets often define how we feel and as people age this becomes a bigger priority. Do your restaurant and your patrons a favor by designing a healthier menu that presents natural foods in their best light.
