Wilberforce University and the United Negro College Fund Walk for Education - September 17

Wilberforce University and the United Negro College Fund Walk for Education - September 17
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 06, 2022

Each year, thousands of students from underrepresented backgrounds begin college, but many don't know if they will be able to finish the academic year because they need financial support.

The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) is an organization that funds scholarships for students in its member historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU), and any accredited two or four year college or university. One of those institutions is Wilberforce University, the nation's first, private HBCU and the only UNCF member in Ohio.

In a UNCF interview, the organization's president and CEO expressed concern that the last two years of racial division and strife and the COVID 19 pandemic have placed an enormous amount of financial pressures on HBCU families.

"We continue to find ourselves at a crossroads where the need of our students and the demand on our member HBCUs is larger than ever before," said Dr. Michael Lomax. "I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again—we are at risk of washing away a generation of talented and deserving African American and minority students. Donations are urgently needed to ensure our next generation of American leaders gets to college, succeed and graduate."

Wilberforce University invites you to join the UNCF Walk for Education to help ensure better futures for HBCU students.
