Posted By: Kennedy Williams on September 14, 2022 University of the District of Columbia (UDC) ranked #17 in the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), an increase from the #30 position last year. A total of 77 historically Black colleges and universities were compared—only with one another—for these rankings. Within the ranking, UDC holds the distinction of being ranked 7th among all public HBCUs. “We are proud to be among these distinguished HBCUs,” said UDC President Ronald Mason Jr. “Our goal is to be the nation’s exemplary model of public higher education. We will remain focused on helping our students discover and achieve their greatest potential as human beings.” A school must be currently designated by the U.S. Department of Education as an HBCU to be on the list. To qualify for the U.S. News rankings, an HBCU also must be an undergraduate baccalaureate-granting institution that primarily enrolls first-year, first-time students and a school that is part of the 2022-2023 Best Colleges rankings. The rankings system rests on quantitative and qualitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality and U.S. News’ view of what matters in education. Clarke School of Law also ranks #42 in the 2023 Best Part-time Law Programs, #147-192 in the 2023 Best Law Schools and #5 in 2023 Best Clinical Training.
