Elizabeth City State University University Adds Another High Ranking to its Growing List of National Accolades
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on September 14, 2022 Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) ranks #6 in the country in the Bachelor’s Colleges category and #15 for Best Bang for the Buck: Southeast universities in the 2022 Washington Monthly College Rankings. The annual ranking moves ECSU up seven spots on the ‘Bachelor’s Colleges’ list and up three spots on the ‘Best Bang for the Buck: Southeast’ list as compared to the publication’s 2021 edition. “The 2022 Washington Monthly rankings showcase the tremendous progress ECSU has made in successfully producing graduates who positively contribute to and lead industries in northeastern North Carolina and beyond,” said Dr. Karrie G. Dixon, chancellor of ECSU. “While rankings give only a glimpse into our comprehensive academy, the university is a diverse and influential community of scholars that delivers on our promise of offering excellent academics at an affordable cost to our students.” Washington Monthly provides annual rankings of colleges and universities that measure student outcomes through publicly available data collected by the U.S. Department of Education, and it places emphasis on how institutions serve middle- and lower-income students. According to the publication, each college and university receives an overall score that represents the combined score of three metrics—social mobility, research and public service—with each metric being weighted equally. The magazine notes, “The Best Bang for the Buck colleges primarily consist of regionally focused public and private nonprofit colleges that are dedicated to providing affordable educations to their students.” Categories include 18 factors, such as Pell recipients, number of Pell graduates, median earnings 10 years after entering college and net price of attendance for families. The 2022 Washington Monthly ranking adds to the university’s accolades, including ECSU being named no. 1 in economic returns for all Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the nation by DegreeChoices in August 2022.
