Fayetteville State Golf Finishes 11th at Season-Opening Griffin Invitational

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on September 14, 2022 The Fayetteville State golf program opened its fall season in Brooksville, Florida with an 11th place finish in The Griffin Invitational at the Southern Hills Golf Club. West Florida won the invitational with an 848 while Barry followed in second at 854. Nova Southeastern finished third (860). FSU finished the 54-hole tournament on the Par 72, 7,557-yard course with a 910 (46 over par) score. The first day of the tournament held two rounds while the second day was only 18 holes. Fayetteville State ranked 11th after the first round with a 304 score. The Broncos held the same ground after 36 holes and a combined 606-score following an improved 302 card. FSU complete the final round with a 304. Freshman Caden Hodges (Dunn, NC) led the Broncos with a three-round total of 224 strokes and finished tied at 39th on the individual leaderboard. He scored FSU's first-round lowest card of 74 with two birdies and had two 75 rounds. Senior Brandon Jones (Sanford, NC) finished one stroke behind Hodges with a 225 score and ranked 47th overall. His 73 final round was the lowest of all Broncos over 54 holes. Jones shot a 75 and a 77 on the first day of play. Freshman Spencer Barbour (Fayetteville, NC) finished tied at 59th with a 230 card and sophomore Juan Lopez (Spain, Madrid) topped off at 64 with a 232 score. Lopez's second round was a two-over par 74. Junior Shaun Wixson (Fayetteville, NC) finished 77th overall with 241 strokes. Fayetteville State will travel to Atlanta, GA to participate in the Farmers Insurance HBCU Championship at the Chateau Elan Country Club from September 26 thru the 27th.
