Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 27, 2022

Harris-Stowe State University has appointed Virgil Pearson to Dean of Students in the Division of Student Affairs. As Dean of Students, Pearson will oversee several areas, including Residential Life, Student Engagement, Dining Services and the Bookstore.

Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. Shawn Baker said, “I am elated to have Mr. Pearson at Hornet Nation. He brings a vast amount of experience to the institution with a humble heart to serve.”

Pearson has worked in higher education for over nine years at several institutions, including private and public. He began working at HSSU in 2016 as a Residential Life Coordinator. Since then, he has held a variety of administrative positions, encompassing all aspects of student development, including but not limited to Residential Life and Housing, Student & Civic Engagement, and Conduct and Auxiliary Services.

“I am very excited to serve the students in the surrounding community of the illustrious Harris-Stowe State University,” Pearson said.

“I am elated to be back home to serve my alma mater by aiding and developing students and creating wholistic experiences outside of the classroom.”

As the Dean of Students, Pearson said his focus and philosophy is to be, “Student Focused, Student Centered, and Student Driven,” he said. “I don’t look at serving students as a job, but as a ministry."
He is affiliated with a number of organizations within the St. Louis area developing partnerships and promoting education.

He relates closely with current students because he attended and graduated from HSSU in 2013 himself with his Bachelor of Science in Business Management. Pearson holds a Masters of Business Administration from Lindenwood University and is currently enrolled in a Doctoral program focusing on Organizational Change and Administration at California Baptist University.
