Posted By: LAVEIST WIL on October 17, 2022 To commemorate 100 years on the campus of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, alumni members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.'s Mu Chapter presented a $100,000 check to Lincoln President Brenda Allen and Board of Trustees Chair Gerald Bruce to establish an endowed scholarship. The Mu Chapter Alumni Board Azikiwe/Nkrumah Scholarship will help fund students born in the Americas (United States, Caribbean, Canada, Honduras, etc.) to study in Africa via Lincoln's study abroad program. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Kwame Nkrumah (the first presidents of independent Nigeria and Ghana respectively) were members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and alums of Lincoln. Sigma is the first of the Divine 9 to establish chapters in Africa. The Ghana chapter, Sigma Mu Sigma, is named for Mu Chapter. Fundraising began in 2020 at the beginning of the COVD-19 pandemic, making the accomplishment that more impressive. Mu Chapter was established May 11, 1922. https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/PhiBet... If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
