WVSU Community Invited to “State Night” at the Clay Center for Art After Dark
|
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on October 18, 2022 West Virginia State University (WVSU) is excited to partner with The Clay Center to showcase a collaborative art exhibition curated by WVSU students during Art After Dark from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. In addition to viewing the opening of the exhibition, titled “Chroma Chronology,” guests can enjoy live jazz music from WVSU alumnus and instructor Phil Washington along with Steve Himes. WVSU’s Art Club, MONA, will also lead guests in a take-home Halloween printmaking activity. Admission is free. A cash bar will be available. Students in WVSU’s Arts Management capstone class selected works from the Juliet Art Museum’s permanent collection after careful research. They developed the exhibition’s themes and interpretation as well as designed their own marketing materials for the exhibition. Students planned the layout of the exhibition and participated in installation while keeping track of the budget and administrative tasks. Throughout the semester, students in the class learn about the different functions of an accredited art museum, including the roles of the curatorial team, marketing, development, education, and visitor experience. Art After Dark is The Clay Center’s monthly art event that follows the city of Charleston’s monthly ArtWalk, typically held on the third Thursday of each month. ArtWalk takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Charleston and is a free self-guided walking tour of shops, galleries, and businesses.
