Against a narrative backdrop of The Lion King, the Coronation was held under the theme “Back On The Throne,” as it represented a return as a king and queen for Mr. Simmons and Mr Page. The pair were Mr. and Miss Sophomore in 2020-2021.

Mr. DSU Jonte Simmons is first-generation senior from Philadelphia County, Pa., and the son of Tawanna Liggs and Rauf Simmons. Majoring in Business Accounting with a minor in Economics, Mr. Simmons is a President’s List and a three-time Dean List scholar. He currently has a cumulative 3.71 GPA.

Throughout his academic journey, Mr. Simmons has excelled as a student leader. In addition to his reign as Mr. Sophomore, he has served as an SGA Treasurer, the second HBCU Mister People’s Choice, Men of Vision Enterprise President, Men of Color Alliance Treasurer, Vice President of the Faithful Black Men Association.

He has also been an Economic Development Leadership Institute Fellow, Campus Tour Guide, Hornet Ambassador, Student Conduct Hearing Board member, and a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Scholar. He is currently a referee in the Wellness Recreation Center as well as a Chaplain for the Psi Epsilon chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and the NPHC 2nd District Undergraduate Representative for his fraternity. Professionally he has interned with PricewaterhouseCooper LLP the past two summers.

Mr. Simmons believes in the mantra “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go as a team.” After he graduates in May, the 2022-2023 Mr. DSU plans to continue his academic journey by pursuing a Master of Business Administration and become a Certified Public Accountant.

Miss DSU Bralyn Page is a senior from Delaware County, Pa., and the daughter of Brian and Barbara Page. A cumulative 3.9 GPA student (a three-time scholar on both the President’s List and Dean’s List), she is majoring in Biological Sciences with a concentration in Health Professions and a double minor in Chemistry and Psychology.

In addition to her time as Miss Sophomore, Ms. Page has served as a NPHC President, Hornet Ambassador, Resident Assistant, Chemistry tutor, and member of the Campus Activities Board. Currently, she is a 2022 HBCU White House Scholar and an active member of the Epsilon Alpha chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. During her academic journey, she has worked as a part-time medical scribe in Newark, Del. to enhance her clinical experience.

In light of the challenges facing HBCU students and Black individuals in America, Ms. Page believes, “It is important to work together, move together and succeed together.” She also believes that one should ever be satisfied with life until a difference has been made someone else’s life.

Upon graduation, the 2022-2023 Miss DSU plans to enroll in medical school and upon completion become a pediatrician.

The Class Kings and Queen were also crowned during the Coronation:

Mr. and Miss Senior: Zachery Bernard, Biological Science major from New Castle, Del.; Danielle Mullins, Mass Communications major from Prince George’s County, Md.
Mr. and Miss Junior: Joshua Holloway, Aviation/Professional Pilot major from Montgomery County, Md.; Inaayaa Coleman, Mathematics Education major from Camden, N.J.
Mr. and Miss Sophomore: Elijah F. Brown, Biological Sciences major from Queen, N.Y.; Imani Bryanna Washington, Political Science major from Harlem, N.Y.
Mr. and Miss Freshman:Meikha Quintyne, Mass Communications major from Queens, N.Y.; Joyce Kasiama, Mass Communications major from Baltimore, Md.
