Posted By: Kennedy Williams on October 31, 2022 On Monday, Oct. 31, Metropolitan Opera star Morris Robinson will lead a special public masterclass at Prairie View A&M University. As part of the program, Robinson will work with undergraduate performers from PVAMU’s Department of Music on their repertoire, after which he will talk about his life and career. “We are thrilled to provide this opportunity for the Voice Department at Prairie View A&M University,” said Jammieca D. Mott, D.M.A., an assistant professor of Voice at PVAMU. “Our students are so excited to work directly with Mr. Robinson, whose brilliant career will inspire them for years to come.” Robinson is considered one of the most sought-after basses performing today. With regular appearances at the MET, he made his debut in the 2002 production of Fidelio. He has also appeared at the San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Dallas Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Seattle Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Teatro alla Scala, Volksoper Wien, Opera Australia, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. As a master clinician, Robinson is no stranger to both higher education learning institutions, as well as performance training programs. Working with young artists across the nations, he has conducted masterclasses at several major universities. According to his biography, Robinson is “a consummate professional with a non-traditional path to success, who brings a unique and realistic perspective to what it means to have a successful career. Sitting on panels, as well as hosting seminars, Mr. Robinson shares his story, professional knowledge and advice with aspiring young artists at every level.” Click here to view more information about today’s event.
