Sierra Leona Deputy Minister, Botswana Delegation visit Delaware State University

Posted By: Kennedy Williams on November 07, 2022 Delaware State University recently hosted a visit from the Honorable Amara Kallon, Deputy Minister of Political and Public Affairs of the African Republic of Sierra Leone and a delegation from the southern African country of Botswana The visit was facilitated by the University’s Center for Global Africa (CGA) in partnership with the African Union. Deputy Minister Kallon participated in the Oct. 28 Homecoming Parade and also met with Delaware Gov. John Carney, U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, and University President Tony Allen. Deputy Minister Kallon also visited Wilmington where received proclamations from State Rep. Kendra Johnson, who is also the Chair of Delaware’s Legislative Black Caucus, and Wilmington City Council President Ernest “Trippi” Congo. He also addressed the public at the Wilmington Public Library at a CGA-organized forum entitled “Bridging Africa and African Americans.” On Nov. 2, Deputy Minister Kallon joined the delegation from Botswana at the University campus for a tour of a number of academic departments and later a luncheon at the Alumni House. The Botswana delegation included Karabo Gare, Minister of Entrepreneurship; Joel Duke Ramaphoi, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Entrepreneurship; Fidelity D. Monthe, Investor and Attraction Executive, SEZA Botswana; Tigele Nleya, Manager, Investment Promotion, Botswana Investment and Trade Center; and Dr. Bao Mosinyi, CEO of Botswana Civil Aviation Authority. Hosting the group were Ezrah Aharone, founding Executive Director of the CGA, and Dr. Marcia Taylor, Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations.
