Meet Lincoln University’s New Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary.
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on November 15, 2022

Attorney Venus D. Boston is an experienced legal professional and business law professor with a demonstrated history of working in higher education.

This fall, Lincoln University welcomed Attorney Venus D. Boston as the new Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary. This appointment went into effect on October 17, 2022.

Boston comes to Lincoln from Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) where she served as the Deputy Chief Legal Counsel and Adjunct Professor of Business Law in the College of Economics and Finance. Under her leadership and legal counsel, Boston saved WSSU almost $650,000 in a settlement action.

In her new role at Lincoln, she will oversee all the University’s legal affairs including leading any litigation strategy and providing counsel on issues affecting various school-related policies and
procedures.

“We are excited to officially welcome Attorney Boston to the Lincoln family,” said Dr. Brenda A. Allen, Lincoln University President. “Venus has extensive experience in providing legal counsel
for universities and in community settings.

I have no doubt that she will be instrumental in leading our legal department.”

Earlier in her career, Boston worked for the Washington County Public School District in Eastern North Carolina where she served as the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator and Legal Advisor. Boston was responsible for bridging the gap between the school system and the
community, as well as advising the superintendent and staff.

In 2013, Boston’s passion for the community led her to organize the school district’s first Back-toSchool and Community Empowerment Festival. Later, she became the principal founder of the WSSU Elite Lawyers-in-Training program to help prepare undergraduate students for law school and life after college.

Boston is the representative of the African American Affinity Group for the National Association of College and University Attorneys leading over 120 African American Attorneys. In 2016, she earned the Winston Under 40 Award for Outstanding Young Leaders in the Winston-Salem community as well as the NCCU 40 Under 40 Award.

She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a three-time honors graduate of North Carolina Central University (NCCU), earning a Bachelor of Arts in English (2004), a Master of Public Administration (2006), and a Juris Doctorate from NCCU School of Law (2012).
