FAMU President Robinson Responds to Fatal Events That Took Place on Campus.

FAMU President Robinson Responds to Fatal Events That Took Place on Campus.
Posted By: S. Moore on November 28, 2022

Larry Robinson, president of Florida A&M University, yesterday issued a statement about the events that left one person dead and four others wounded at basketball courts on Florida A&M's campus on Sunday afternoon.

"The Florida A&M University Police Department (FAMUPD) is working with the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) in investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the outdoor basketball courts in the 2100 block of Wahnish Way near the Hansel Tookes Recreation that was closed at the time.

One victim, an adult male, died as a result of this shooting. Four other victims, one juvenile male and three adult males, sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. Based on initial reports, it appears none of the victims are FAMU students.

“I want to assure the FAMU community the shooting incident that occurred on campus is not an ongoing threat to the University.

The safety and security of our students, and the campus is our highest priority. The FAMU Campus Safety Department is working with the Tallahassee Police Department as the investigation continues. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” FAMU President Larry Robinson, Ph.D.

This remains an open and active investigation and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. It has been determined there is no longer a threat to the campus of Florida A&M University. The shelter in place is no longer active, but the FAMU community is asked to remain aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activity.

TPD Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the shooting, but did not speak with an officer on scene, to please call TPD at 850-891-4200. They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS."
