FAMU Volleyball Feels Better Suited In Second Run To Represent SWAC In NCAA Tournament
|
Posted By: S. Moore on December 01, 2022 Another year, another NCAA national tournament appearance for Florida A&M volleyball. The Rattlers (21-12, 15-1 SWAC) won the SWAC championship by sweeping Alabama State to earn an automatic bid to the 64-team bracket on Nov. 20. They will travel to Gainesville to take on No. 3 seed and SEC champions Florida Gators in the first round on Friday. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. "We always want to play in December," FAMU coach Gokhan Yilmaz said. "We're playing a very good team, but we've played some bigger teams similar to what Florida plays. "We knew we would draw a big name in the NCAA tournament again and we learned from those matches to make practices more intense." The Rattlers played against the Gators in the tournament's opening round in 2021, but were swept and eliminated from competition. "Last year was not a very good showing for us overall," Yilmaz said. "Having that experience definitely helped us and I expect us to be more prepared this time. “We’re not as nervous as last year.” SOURCE Tallahassee Democrat If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
