Resources for Effective ACT Study
|
Posted By: Anica Oaks on December 05, 2022 Having a group of reliable resources at your fingertips when studying for the ACT will significantly increase your chances of seeing stellar scores. An effective study plan, or test-taking strategy, is a comprehensive list of all the materials you'll need to study for the ACT and how you should use them. Here are some resources that can help you study, so be sure to use them to their fullest potential. 1. The Official ACT Prep Guide The Official ACT Study Guide is the best resource for students who are preparing for the test. The book is designed by and for the ACT makers, so you can be sure its content is up-to-date and reliable. In addition, it offers a ton of practice questions and strategies for answering all four sections successfully. If you need help with how to study for the ACT, be sure to check out this book. 2. Official ACT Practice Tests To understand what the ACT looks like and how detailed its questions can be, these free practice tests are a great place to start. Two sample tests are provided in the Official ACT Prep Guide (mentioned above), so after working through that book, take some time to take both practice exams and see how you score. 3. Varsity Tutors Get more personalized study help as you prepare for the test by using Varsity Tutors. This hugely popular website is like having a virtual coach that answers your questions, provides strategies, and helps you organize your study time. You can also find dozens of individual tutors who will work with you and give you personal attention. ACT tutors can help you with every aspect of the test, whether you're studying for the English and Math sections or the Writing and Science sections. You can also get personal mentoring from at least one tutoring expert for each of these four sections. 4. Magazines For even more practice questions and strategies, check out the growing number of online magazines and blogs designed for students taking the ACT. College Sports Magazine, Your Total Health Online, and College Magazine feature articles written by students who've taken the ACT and are currently taking it. 5. Online Resources Whether you prefer to study on your computer or with a book, there are many websites where you can access some good, firsthand ACT prep material. The two most popular sites are CollegeBoard.com and ACT.org. Both of these sites offer an incredible amount of high-quality practice materials and tons of test-taking strategies. In addition, you can find free resources from many other reliable sources, like the book How to Have a Good Day. Conclusion If you follow these resources and study according to their instructions, you will do well on the ACT. Be sure to keep in mind that it's important to review your materials regularly and as a part of your practice. Every week or two, go through your study list and review everything labeled "Must Review." This will ensure that you remember important concepts and maintain your momentum.
