Moguls In The Making: Ally Awards Over $188,000 To Budding HBCU Entrepreneurs

Moguls In The Making: Ally Awards Over $188,000 To Budding HBCU Entrepreneurs
Posted By: S. Moore on December 15, 2022

Several talented Historically Black Colleges and Universities students with entrepreneurial dreams are one step closer to achieving their goals thanks to winning the Moguls in the Making competition.

Hosted by Ally, in collaboration with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, sixty students – 15 HBCU teams with four students each – were asked to develop an idea for how to support economic mobility in Charlotte, one of Ally’s hometown markets, and then create a business plan to put those ideas into action.

The competition, which spanned 72 hours, provided HBCU students with the knowledge to create business plans, pitch those plans, and more. Each team was given 10 minutes to present their concepts to a panel of judges, who awarded prizes to the top three teams based on the pitch.

Members of the top teams each received a scholarship for the 2023 school year, guaranteed offers of a paid internships at Ally for Summer 2023, and other prizes to support their education. Ally’s commitment to embracing diversity within their company was at the forefront of their Moguls in the Making competition, employing over 36 winners since 2019 when the program started.

“One of our goals with MITM is to cultivate new talent for our team at Ally — we believe that everyone brings a unique perspective to our company, which makes us stronger.

Each year, the top three teams in the competition win an internship at Ally, and all MITM participants are offered the opportunity to apply for an internship.

Since the first year of the program in 2019, Ally has employed 36 of the Moguls participants as interns and has hired 12 as full-time employees across a variety of functions.”
