4 Tips on How To Move Out of Your Dorm Room

4 Tips on How To Move Out of Your Dorm Room
Posted By: Dixie Somers on December 28, 2022

It may be surprising, but you will soon be faced with the reality check that college is finally over, and it is now time to move out of your dorm room. But, after four years, the time has come and you have enough to plan already with finals, graduation, and leaving new friends behind. This is why it is best to come up with an organized game plan for packing your things up and getting a head start on your move. As such, here are four important tips for moving out of your dorm:

Send or Drive Stuff Back Early

Over the course of your senior year, you may find that you have items lying around that you no longer need to complete the school year. For example, by April, you wouldn’t need a fur coat. So, take the time on a Saturday afternoon to drive to your parent's home, if they live nearby, and drop these items off prior to the end of the semester. You can also send items home in a box or ask your mom or dad, or a company like Student Movers, Inc., to swing by and pick them up.

Pack Prior to Final Exams

You should never wait to pack until finals are already underway. You actually shouldn’t even pack in the weeks leading up to exams, since you will need all the time that you have for studying.

Instead, start removing wall hangings, and pack out-of-season clothes and books that you no longer need at the moment.

Organize Textbooks and Papers

Pick up and browse through any assignments that you may have lying around your dorm room. Decide what you want to keep, and what you will need to study for finals. Everything else should be disposed of immediately.

Then, look through your textbooks. Outside of books about your major, are there any books on other subjects that you wish to keep for reference? There probably aren’t, so either get rid of them or offer them to a secondhand bookstore on campus.

Separate your Items from all your Roommates’

Like almost any other person that has lived for any amount of time with roommates, your items have probably become meshed together with theirs. Whether these things are books, electronics, items of clothing, or cooking utensils, you should put the time aside to sort through all communal belongings with everyone that you are rooming with. Once you have all of your personal items in one particular area of the dorm room, you can pack them at your own pace and refrain from worrying about any missing stuff.

In conclusion, it is easy to squeeze in moving out of your dorm room if you use the tips listed above. After all, you don’t want to waste precious time with all the activities coming up around the end of the semester. You should instead concentrate on graduation and planning the rest of your life.
