It'll feature two of Alabama’s most prominent HBCU’s going head-to-head Alabama A&M versus Alabama State at the Mitchell Center, and it's more than just a college ball game! Local high school athletes will also get the chance to show off their skills. On Monday, the classic starts off with the Blount High School Leopards taking on the McIntosh High Blue Devils. Following that game, a classic showdown between Leflore and Baker High School. Then the Alabama State University and Alabama A&M women’s and men’s teams will play in back to back games starting at 1 o’clock. But it's more than just a game, there will also be live musical performances, a battle of the bands, a drum major challenge and a drum line battle. LaSheryl Dotch is the COO for the Bridge Builder Classic. She says this is their second year doing the classic is also an opportunity for kids to get exposed to HBCU's and what they have to offer by having recruiting and information tables from A&M, ASU, and other local universities for high school students. "It's important to kind of shed light so it's not forgotten here in the city of Mobile,” Dotch says. "Just like with other events that we have throughout the city like gulf coast challenge and you're bringing, it's like a midpoint for a lot of different colleges to come together so what better place to have it than here." It all kicks off next Monday at the Mitchell Center starting at 9am. SOURCE UTV44 If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
