Rust College Alum Selected for 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on January 13, 2023 Rust College alum, Dr. Leslie Burl McLemore (’64), has been selected to be the recipient of the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest award given by the Mississippi Historical Society. The award was established by the Mississippi Historical Society to recognize individuals who, over a period of many years, have made major contributions to the preservation, study, and interpretation of Mississippi history. The Society honors one for being a student participant in the Civil Rights Movement, a leader in the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, a successful political leader and academician who broke barriers, and a citizen-activist who continues to shape the history of our state today. “The Society is grateful for your leadership in establishing and expanding the Mississippi Freedom Trail of historical makers about civil rights to help future generations recognize important people, places, and events,” stated Society President, Tougaloo College professor Daphne Chamberlain. McLemore’s selection as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award will be announced at the annual meeting of the Mississippi Historical Society on March 2-3, 2023, in Jackson, MS.
