"People are starting to see us": Allen Wrestling gets off to best start in school history
Posted By: Sofía Montiel on January 31, 2023 (WACH) - The Allen University wrestling team is off to the best start to the season in program history at 13-4. In the 2022 year, the Yellowjackets went just 4-16. Players said the turnaround is due to a shift in mindset. "We let go of all the things that were causing negativity," said junior Nyshaad Hannon. "All of us just began to bond even more and we brought a bigger positivity to the mat." The optimism and high energy felt throughout the squad is fueling Allen's determination. "It motivates me a lot," said Allen wrestling head coach Eric Pack. "It let's me know that we can win." Allen has endured just one conference loss so far. It's a level of play making waves in the league. "People are starting to see us," said junior Michael Jackson. "Teams are definitely being like, 'hey, we've got to go out and actually wrestle these kids because they're not a first-year team anymore. These are kids that actually want to come out and wrestle and want to beat us.'" The historic season will be put to the test when the Yellowjackets take on Newberry College this weekend, an elite program head coach Eric Pack spent 15 seasons with. "Coming from that program we were very successful there and I want to bring that success here to Allen," said Pack. "This year it's really kind of come full tilt for us." The 9-4 Wolves will host Allen on Friday, February 3 at 7 p.m. SOURCE Wach FOX 57 If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
